How the texts are written

Writing and review

• Each text is written by one person and reviewed by another before publication.
• Claims are checked against the search engines' own developer documentation where such documentation exists.
• Where a claim is practitioner observation rather than documentation, the text says so.
• We publish no percentages or ranking factor weightings, because they are not verifiable.
• Examples are generic and do not correspond to real sites.

Why the labelling matters

In this field, an observation repeated confidently for long enough becomes indistinguishable from a documented fact, and people build strategies on it. Marking which is which costs a clause per sentence and is the most useful thing a text about search can do.

Updating

Search engine documentation is revised regularly. We review the texts periodically and whenever something described demonstrably changes. The date on each text is the date of the last review; where anything here differs from current documentation, the documentation governs.
